I like the video, especially the beat, its very soulful. Dude’s lyrics werent bad either. Beat reminds me of 9th wonder
I would have totally slept on Preach if it weren’t for the find’s coverage and from what i’ve heard I love his sound and the lyrics. And much prefer these homemade videos to those done in big ol’ studios. The insight into their creative process and the reality of being an artist just can’t be matched if you’re outside their personal space, even the subtle stuff like posters and photos make me look around and be like, my house is like this!
if god made anything better than you
i hope he kept it to himself
nothin better but intimate
pure like a baby’s innocence
sort of like me and your soul mate
the first time
or the feelin i got
when i wrote my first rhyme
or that first time -that i went in between
the first time that i hit the stage
the people scream
my name
get the feeling -i couldnt believe it
moments like this it gives your life meaning
made in his image
so he looks like me
i mean it looks like him
or like this
*when I hear a drum-
-i know that god exists*
im hearin’ some keys
its like feelin the breeze
you oughta be next to me
for years i’ve been a prisoner just rescue me
and see what fate can mean
i’m forever here
but its never late for me
c’mon

I fell right into this song. It is real mellow & Preach’s imagery is magnificent.
When I heard Preach say: “when i hear a drum, -I know that God exists”>> i was caught off guard. I was incredulous.
>>>Preach pegged the mystic of rhythm with that line. He really did.
The way we naturally connect to rhythm is similar to how we breathe.
Just like how we don’t have to think in order for our body to breathe, thought is not required when it concerns one swayin’ to a pure* beat.
When ever we are compelled to just “do” with out having to rationalize the action.. >>that is God. (in my opinion)
On those serene occasions when the vibrations absorb your entire entity and you are not you, but simply of everything else.., that is God existing.
I go to church about twice a week, and a hip hop show about once a month.
The church that I attend has a truly uplifting choir and an awesome organ player; while the hip hop shows that I attend are all greatly influenced by Dilla.
With that said, from my experience with the hip hop and choir music that I hear on a constant basis, ..although the music from the hip hop shows is “different” (for the lack of a better word) ..when compared to the choir music I hear at my church,..
>> they both yield to the same vibrations, ..the same rhythm.
That is God existing.
Sure, I may be reading too deep into this joint, possibly.
Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this song.
Love the video. Preach is getting better and better. But being specific to the video, I love the down-to-earth feel, like I would know somebody like Preach (instead of the “fantasy” hip-hop videos). Great work!
“You learn to fly when u fallin”
The video exudes Hip Hop.
Great song. Real soulful vibe. I could “feel” the reality coming from the video. None of that clutter/bs that surrounds vids nowadays where it drowns the music. The video only helped push the music to the foreground. Dug the mirror bit too, clever shit.
The comments above win a free signed copy of Preach Jacobs & Denz’ Maple St. Sessions! Congratulations!’
You’ll all here from us soon.
Cheers,
Danny
