After The Basics and The Contest(winners will be announced soon!), it’s time for the third installment of our Dour Special. The festival takes place in Belgium from 15-18 July. This time we focus on some recommendations from our side, from day to day.

Thursday July 15th

Recommendations: Wax Tailor, Peter Digital Orchestra, DJ Marky, DJ Hype, Netsky, Borgore, Gui Boratto, (more)

Wax TailorA couple of years back I saw Wax Tailor as support act for the French Le Peuple de l’Herbe and he really blew my mind. Him behind the decks, a video screen behind him and a live female vocalist and violin player to back up the music. Amazing trip hop vibes, but straight hip hop tracks as well. Oh, and his Que Sera remake is timeless, can’t stop listening to that.

Peter Digital Orchestra. Fellow ‘Thefindmag writer’ Wim introduced me to producer Peter Digital Orchestra, who I really like since then. A style that floats somewhere in between electronic synth music and hip hop. Don’t know what to expect live though. But he’s definitely on my list to find out!

NetskyAlthough the entire Drum N Bass lineup this day is amazing. DJ Hype, DJ Marky, Black Sun Empire, DJ Hazard.. Enough to see in only one tent! Just pointing out Netsky because his self titled debut he released earlier this year is amazing. Definitely recommended. Anyway, you’ll definitely find us going ape shit on some hard drums and deep basses.

Friday July 16th

Recommendations: A-Trak, Daedelus, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Forma.T All Stars, Aba Shanti & The Disciples, Dave Clarke, Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip, AKS & Selah Sue, (more)

Forma.TNow this sounds like a very interesting melting pot of music. Hip hop, techno, dubstep, rock, dub and electro: all styles represented on one stage by a wide array of artists. The Others, Dj Sonar, Surfing Leons and Monsieur Monsieur share the stage to create a big sound clash. Definitely an interesting musical experiment.

AKS & Selah Sue. I have to admit I have a weakness for Belgian soulful singer Selah Sue. She has a nice style and damn she can sing.. When I noticed she’s performing together with Addicted Kru Sound (drum & bass, electro, hip hop, dubstep), I realized I have to see them. Not convinced yet? Click.

Aba Shanti vs. The Disciples. For the very first time there’s a soundclash between two dub masters; Aba Shanti and The Disciples from the UK. The description speaks for itself: ‘This is to be a ‘sound clash’ that will put the dubplates and surcharged bass at centre stage and make the walls of Babylon crumble!’ Click here for a preview.

Next week we’ll focus on the third and fourth day of Dour Festival.
