News: Vinyl Reissue Box Set of ‘Dr. Octagonecologyst’ via Get On Down

“It was sci-fi, science and sex. And cannibalism, mixed. Space, sex and ‘Psycho,’ all at the same time.” It’s pretty obvious to whom this quote belongs—not Irish novelist James Joyce. Surrealist emcee Kool Keith said it about Dr. Octagonecologyst, his unearthly 1996 solo debut as Dr. Octagon, with productions by Dan The Automator and KutMasta Kurt, and cuts by Q-Bert.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the mind-bending album, Get On Down (true masters when it comes to reissues!) will release a box set in a custom, octagonal box and sleeves. Including 5 previously unreleased songs, original Pushead cover artwork, and a 40-page liner notes booklet, with dozens of images—from album artwork to promotional ads—as well as interviews with both Keith and Dan The Automator by author Brian Coleman.

Pre-order the 3LP box set via Get On Down (shipping early May), see a list of the unreleased material below, or scroll down to listen to the original album. For old time’s sake—or should we say for future time’s sake?

“Other groups might have needed to be on drugs to attempt a record like Dr. Octagon, but I was eating potato chips, Yoo-Hoos and donuts when we made it. It was one big spaceship and everyone was riding. Me and Automator were Mr. Spock and Captain Kirk.” – Kool Keith
