Mix: DJ Yoda – Stranger Things

After binge watching the first five episodes of Stranger Things on Netflix (without the chill) yesterday, I was impressed by the soundtrack right away. Mostly synth-heavy compositions, but also 70s and 80s tunes by the likes of Joy Division, The Clash, New Order, and David Bowie. At first I was a bit sceptical about the series (“a 12-year-old boy vanishes mysteriously” – YAWN), but it’s surprisingly good. Suspense-filled, tense, and mysterious — like being a kid walking over a dark forest path at midnight, all by yourself.

Today I found this mix by UK turntablist DJ Yoda, which is a great 52-minute ride, even if you’re not into the series (yet). Consisting of music featured in and inspiring the Netflix TV show. An odd wink to 80s horror as well as pop charts. To prove the latter, wait till Toto kicks in…

And in related news: last week it has been announced the OST of Stranger Things will get an official release, but there’s no release date known yet.
