Listen: Mighty Atlas’ eclectic Debut Album

A surprising mix of jazz, grooves, future beats, dub, and 80s electro; combining sounds from all around the world. As always for the Dutch record label: exploring musical heritage, with an eye on the future.

Fremdtunes presents the debut album of Mighty Atlas, a collective led by label founders Rogier van Hout (DJ Mace) and Neels Smeekens (DJ Optimus). The outcome: a surprising mix of jazz, grooves, future beats, dub, and 80s electro; combining sounds from all around the world. As always for the Dutch record label: exploring musical heritage, with an eye on the future.

“Mighty Atlas eats ngonis, Junos and saxophones for breakfast. Regrets the fact he never met Henri Matisse, Yusef Lateef and Luke Skywalker. He’s a raging Juggernaut, sprinkling fairy dust on unsuspecting passengers. A man of contrast… So, as music can only be understood backwards and must be made forwards, let’s take a look in the used future.” – Fremdtunes

Just an ordinary guy always on the hunt for extraordinary music. Not just as the founder of The Find Magazine & Rucksack Records, but also as a freelance music journalist (bylines at Tracklib, Bandcamp, Wax Poetics, DIG Mag, among others) and—above all—out of love for all kinds of good music.
