Jorun Bombay’s mind-bending, all-vinyl Funkbox Reload mixes

Jorun Bombay’s mind-bending, all-vinyl Funkbox Reload mixes

During my wake up routine this morning I came across Jorun Bombay‘s “La-Di-Da-Di” flip via Diggers With Gratitude (see below). A 40-second preview which made my sleep dust disappear like it was a triple shot of espresso.

The video was a teaser for the upcoming edition of his all-vinyl Funkbox Reload mix series on Mixcloud. A show completely new to me. But oh man, such a wild ride…

Inspired by the likes of Mr. Magic’s Rap Attack, Kool DJ Red Alert & Chuck Chillout’s KISS FM Mastermixes and The Latin Rascals edits, Funkbox Reload is an energetic mixture of funk, soul, boogie, disco, breaks and 80s/90s hip hop. And let’s not forget: a touch of comedy, such as parody commercials and chopped interviews.

Each edition also contains several edits and remixes by Jorun Bombay. With the edition below featuring remixes of Grand Wizard Theodore’s “Can I Get A Soul Clap”, KC & The Sunshine Band’s “Get Down Tonight”, Run-DMC & Beastie Boys’ “Slow & Low”, and a cut-and-paste Ghostface Killah appearance.

A new edition is on its way, till then you can enjoy previous editions via Jorun Bombay’s Mixcloud channel. We highly recommend this old edition featuring music by Biz Markie, Eric B & Rakim, Stetsasonic, Oxygen, El Da Sensei, Freddie Scott, amongst many others.

Just an ordinary guy always on the hunt for extraordinary music. Not just as the founder of The Find Magazine & Rucksack Records, but also as a freelance music journalist (bylines at Tracklib, Bandcamp, Wax Poetics, DIG Mag, among others) and—above all—out of love for all kinds of good music.
