Sly5thAve – The Invisible Man: An Orchestral Tribute to Dr. Dre

The Invisible Man is an orchestral tribute to Dr. Dre (no shit) by multi-instrumentalist, arranger and producer Sly5thAve. This Tru Thoughts release is the result of a live concert back in 2015 together with Eric Coleman (Mochilla), Kentyah Fraser & Playing For Change. That “California Love” show was dedicated to building a music school in Compton.

The 2LP album (heads up: almost sold out) includes guest appearances by the likes of Quantic, Mark de Clive Lowe, Paul Wison & Cory Henry. Too bad not all tracks are up for stream on Bandcamp though. I’m particularly curious to the David Axelrod produced “The Edge“, the classic original to “The Next Episode”.

There’s also quite a lot of old material to be heard on Sly5thAve’s Soundcloud page with his 21-piece The Club Casa Chamber Orchestra, performing everything from A Tribe Called Quest to Kendrick Lamar.

Just an ordinary guy always on the hunt for extraordinary music. Not just as the founder of The Find Magazine & Rucksack Records, but also as a freelance music journalist (bylines at Tracklib, Bandcamp, Wax Poetics, DIG Mag, among others) and—above all—out of love for all kinds of good music.
