Top 15: Dope Beatmakers You Should Know
10. Jublet

Australian beatmaker Jublet started the year in February with a highly impressive album Mirrors which was followed up by several more albums which solidified his esoteric and earthy sound. From the beginning of the year to the end, his sound has matured immensely and along with his production collab with Danny Watts foreshadows a very exciting 2014.

9. Sicknessmp

Unexpectedly booming out of Indonesia and China, the newly formed East Asian beatmaking collective Half A Blunt is spearheaded by the prolific producer Sicknessmp. Heavily inspired by golden era 90s boom bap, Sicknessmp rocks authentic hip hop with just an MPC and a turntable, churning out a bunch of dope releases at the end of 2013.

8. Maloon TheBoom

Swiss beathead Maloon TheBoom is a humble and dedicated hip hop fiend who joined forces with Melodiesinfonie to form Boyoom Connective late last year. Throughout 2013 Maloon has shown his diversity by delving into straight hip hop projects with Jay Prince and Black Vulcanite, more futurebeats oriented projects like Swacle with Melodiesinfonie, as well as toying with a multitude of sounds on his own new solo LP Not About The Money.

7. Harry Caine

Mexican beatmaker Harry Caine has been around and making moves for a couple years now, but 2013 saw the most global success and recognition for his music as well as his label PIR▲.MD. As always Harry has been busier than a hive of bees on Adderall, releasing plenty of beats including a solo album and various collaborations including his duo with El Vox, Doom Providers. Harry laces jazz-based beats with his own upbeat rhythms to go above and beyond typical looped jazz sounds.

6. Khryo

French beatsmith Khryo has been slowly building his own dazed and abstract sound over the past year. His warm instrumentals border on otherwordliness while always staying headnoddingly fresh. In addition to his deep original instrumentals, Khryo’s remix game is tighter than a Boa Constrictor’s grip, having dropped some of our favourite reworks of 2013.
