After his album ‘Eternal Development’, Japanese DJ/Producer Grooveman Spot will release a new effort on April 7th this year. The album is called ‘Change Situations’ and will be released by the Jazzy Sport record label.
Last week The Q4 (The QuadraphoniQuartet) released the critically acclaimed debut ‘Sound Surroundings’. Members Arts The Beatdoctor, Sense and STW sampled hundreds of dusty records to create their album, with a unique sample-based sound as result. The three producers took time to talk with us about their new release, sampling, music, the digital era and much more.
We posted the first promotional video of ArtOfficial before; here’s the second one. This time the Jazz/Funk-orientated Hip Hop band from L.A. performs a new song based on a reworked backdrop of Jimi Hendrix’ classic song ‘Voodoo Child’. Their upcoming free release ‘The Payback’ drops on March 26th.
Remember the well received mix by The Shelltoes we posted last year? Recently vocalist Kyla Sexton and producer/DJ/jazz muso Glen Coates (aka The Shelltoes) released their first official EP, called ‘I Was Told There Would Be Refreshments’. It’s available as a free download for a limited time, so better be quick!
This week we decided to select a track that’s a little bit old, instead of a brand new track like we do more often. But time isn’t a relevant factor when it comes to good music, right?
Hailing from California, Nima Fadavi heads the class of a new generation Bay Area producers. He has recently landed production on projects with Andre Nickatina, The Grouch, Pep Love, Del the Funky Homosapien, and Sunspot Jonz. Mr. J Medeiros released the ‘Art Of Broken Glass’ EP for free. Fully produced by Boonie Mayfield and with features by Tara Ellis (Love Is All), Jonathan Korsyzk (The Measure) and DJ Inka One (Broken Windows), this EP is a nice addition after Mr. J’s sophomore album ‘Friends Enemies Apples Apples’.
Recently I found this trailer of the upcoming documentary ‘Exit Through The Gift Shop’. It’s the first ever street art disaster movie. Personally I am really looking forward to see it, and not because the ‘Oh my god Banksy might reveal himself ‘ hype around it. This is definitely an interesting concept I have to keep my eyes open for.
I just finished watching a documentary called “Copyright Criminals” on PBS. It was about the history of sampling and the legal issues associated with it.
Stumbled upon this amazing mix via Twitter and I ended up on the website Rhythm Incursions. Have to admit I didn’t know them yet, but I’m definitely a regular visitor from now on, good stuff over there. This mix includes The Q4, Nosaj Thing, Oh No, Dizz1, Mayer Hawthorne, Exile, Jose James and much more! And for your information: we have interviews coming up with some of these artists I mentioned… Enjoy!
