A very interesting concept by Stones Throw Records and Dublab: They sent beatmakers Daedelus, Nobody, J.Rocc and Ras G on a hunt for records in Los Angeles. Directors Bryan “Morpho” Younce and Mark “Frosty” McNeill filmed their crate digging tour in a two hours long documentary.

The boombox was and is an icon of hip hop, even if just in images. Regardless of the cool factor, technology and convenience caught up with the boombox and rendered it obsolete. Do we really miss it?

Flying Lotus does it frequently, and recently he leaked some new songs on his Myspace again. It isn’t possible to download them, but the five unreleased tracks are definitely good to get in the mood for his upcoming album, according to several sources out in early 2010.

Interview: LABtrio

They’re young, they’re very talented: they’re LABtrio. A jazz collective from Belgium with a clear musical vision and ambitious plans. We met drummer Lander Gyselinck to talk about the trio: “We bring urban-influenced Jazz, jazz that flirts with the underground culture. With our music we try to be a breathe of fresh air to Jazz and its audience.”
