Three years after the release of the Mary Musth album, Canadian hip hop duo Magnolius closes its sophomore chapter with the release of a creative video for the song “King for Hire”.  Director Justin T. Lee creates an intriguing monochromatic world that seamlessly fuses a stop-motion animated protagonist with classically animated hand-drawn characters.

The video follows a young woman as she descends from the doldrums of her life as a night security guard into a mysterious land of teddy bears… yes, teddy bears. Magnolius themselves appear throughout the video in unexpected forms, suggesting the land of the teddy bears may not be as pleasant as it seems.

Director and animator Justin T. Lee: “Magnolius is a conscious fusion of music genres, which inspired the fusion of different styles and animation techniques to tell our story.”  You can download the song “King For Hire” for free on Bandcamp.
