Top 30: Driving Songs
30. Dave Grusin – Gasoline Alley

Where better to start than with some good old 60s OST funk from prolific film and TV composer David Grusin. This funky banger from the 1969 film Winning starring Paul Newman is a fresh way to musically accompany a pit stop.

29. War – Low Rider

This is probably one of the most iconic songs focused around cruising around in an automobile. There is not much of an explanation needed here. You can feel like a badass rolling to this 1975 hit from War’s album Why Can’t We Be Friends.

28. Nujabes – Aruarian Dance

Japanese instrumental messiah Nujabes has plenty of beats that lend themselves kindly to a smooth spring drive. Aruarian Dance is one of his most beautiful beats and a perfect soundtrack to a country drive.

27. Duncan Lamont – The Open Road

Digging in the extensive and elusive KPM library catalogue one comes across the work of Scotsman Duncan Lamont. From 1975, this flute based groove begs to be played as a car cruises on a long open and deserted road.

26. Home Brew – Drive

New Zealand hip hop heavy weights Home Brew Crew start out this track by saying its just some shit to drive to. The jazzy piano beat rolls smoothly as emcee Tom Scott spits his characteristic laid back and poignant flows. Be sure to check out the whole 2009 album, Summer Ale, and download it for free as a great ode to summer time.
