Just like the number 42 is the answer to “the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything”, so sounds Kassa Overall’s album title as a solution for everything in life: go get ice cream and listen to jazz to make all your problems go away. Escapism at its finest.

But Kassa Overall, a New York-based producer-MC and drummer, does anything but escape from reality on his latest album. Go Get Ice Cream And Listen To Jazz is a heartfelt album, serious and playful at the same time.

He flows over a self-produced mixture of hip-hop and contemporary jazz—it’s one of the most refreshing hip-hop albums we’ve heard this year. With a big thanks to Madison Washington’s Malik for recommending me this album.
