Video: The Roosevelt Years (90s Record Convention)

The Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan is one of the places we want to visit when our time machine is finished. Not because of the actual hotel, but for the monthly record convention that took place in the early 90s.

This video is a short interview with Ego Trip‘s Chairman Mao, who takes you back to the legendary event with participants like Pete Rock, Buckwild, Salaam Remi, Q-Tip, 45 King, Lord Finesse, Beatminerz, Godfather Don, Busta Rhymes, Egon… and the list goes on and on. A piece of hip hop history.

Mao: “[It] attracted every significant New York-based hip-hop producer of the early 90s, and shaped the sound of the music in ways people outside the ‘beat-digging’ scene probably never realized.”

Just an ordinary guy always on the hunt for extraordinary music. Not just as the founder of The Find Magazine & Rucksack Records, but also as a freelance music journalist (bylines at Tracklib, Bandcamp, Wax Poetics, DIG Mag, among others) and—above all—out of love for all kinds of good music.
