Grooves & Samples #21: 윤시내 – 공연히 (1978)

Grooves & Samples is a weekly dive into old dusty crates of jazz, funk, soul and beyond.

This latest Grooves & Samples feature comes straight out of the dusty crates of South Korea. Honestly, I can’t tell you too much about this artist or release, other than that the grooves are funky as all hell. The artist name is Yoon Si Nae, and the track title is something like “Vanity”.

Yoon Si Nae apparently made her musical debut in 1975 and this is from her first LP I Do Not Know which she released in 1978. From what I understand, Korea was a bit behind the times in terms of North American styles like funk and soul, so this record is in a style similar to much earlier records in the western world. Soon we will have a big feature on crate digging in South Korea, until then, whet your appetite with this tasty slice of Korean funk. If you have any further information about this artist or release, please let us know.
