Artist Column: I’m reaching my full potential

The way I feel is very difficult to explain to others. As a person, I am very minimalist in almost every aspect of my lifestyle. I only use what I need and I like to keep things organized. In regards to music, it ruins my creativity when things are out of order.

Every once in a while we publish an article or column written by an artist. This time producer Kuroisoul did an interesting piece for us. A column from the perspective of an (independent) artist…

I’m reaching my full potential

The way I feel is very difficult to explain to others. As a person, I am very minimalist in almost every aspect of my lifestyle. I only use what I need and I like to keep things organized. In regards to music, it ruins my creativity when things are out of order.

One thing that constantly annoys me is realizing how reliant I am when it comes to the internet, phones, tv, and technology in general. These things, little by little, take away my focus. They make me feel less human. At the same time, I realize how hard it is to try and throw these things away because they are standards that are ingrained in society. If I throw away my phone in favor of dealing with people face to face, if I tell people I don’t have an e-mail, if I don’t have a website, how can I succeed? How will I make it? It seems impossible.

When I originally set out to create music, I wanted to be the best. I wanted to master the art of sampling music to create hip hop.

I still do.

Focus
In order to do this I need absolute focus so that I can reach my full potential. If I could achieve that focus and shut everything else out, I know I could do it. There is not a doubt in my mind. I look at my life, and then I see where I am wasting a lot of time focusing on things other than my goal because of all of this technology that is available to me. I am distracted.

Internet
I use the internet and check the same websites over and over again. I check my phone to see if I have received a message. I check my e-mail. Now I have to worry about, should I update my blog? How often? Should I post a video on YouTube? Should I upload a new track? Should I post my music? How many listens do I have? Downloads? Views? I create plans and I try to follow the trend or what makes sense and I do what everybody else does, but then after a while I say forget it. I take everything down because that is not how I want to be. I don’t care about any of that. I don’t want to give my attention to any of those things.

I just want to focus on music until I can make an impact on others.
