Skinemax is Koyaanisqatsi for a generation raised on late night television and B-movie VHS tapes. It’s long form entertainment for short attention spans. An hour long VJ odyssey, it will move your body and warp your mind.

For anyone who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and loves beat driven music, this will warp your mind indeed. This 55 minute trip contains snippets of many famous films and cartoons from throughout the years. One point that stood out to me in particular was Christopher Walken as Frank White in ‘King of New York’ dancing to the Fulgeance track ‘Glamoure’ which was then juxtaposed with scenes from the classic hip hop and urban culture film ‘Juice’.

I have really enjoyed finding unofficial music videos around YouTube that utilize old footage from films to create a visual landscape for modern music. This is like that experience on steroids. I might recommend some kind of mental intoxicant to accompany this mad nostalgic trip into 80’s and 90’s pop culture. The soundtrack features music by  Com Truise, Teebs, Depakote, Fulgeance, and many more.

Kamir Hiam (USA) has been obsessed with hip hop culture since discovering rap as a child in the mid 90s. As curator of The Find's Stay Thirsty podcast, he is an obsessive crate digger, always looking for more dope music. Other hobbies include travel, reading, fitness, and science.
