Wow – look at us. A feature on The Find Mag; these are big boy moves. Ladies, gentlemen, and aliens of Area 51 (we’re coming): The candles are lit and the lights have been dimmed. It is time for the next episode of Exhibit&Friends with Chali 2na.

(Phone Interview & Text: Gabriel ‘Exhibit’ Nwokedi for Exhibit&Friends)

This is the interview series where I, Exhibit, interview a variety of different creatives. Our friend for this episode is Chali 2na: the hip hop king and staple member of hip hop group Jurassic 5 as well as the band Ozomatli.

Everyone should know who Chali 2na is. He played a role in shaping the music we listen to today. He’s also someone that knows what hip hop really means and sticks to it. As a matter of fact, he watched its creation from an early age and has stuck to its code for going on 25 years now. Yes, 25 years. Chali 2na is no rookie to the game and has proven himself over and over again by developing new approaches with his music.

He is best known for his funky/groovy style and baritone voice, which still sounds like silk even to this day. What I like about Chali 2na is that he shows love for all things hip hop – not just the music. The man is a photographer and an artist amongst other things–and has become very talented in these crafts. A man of many talents, Chali 2na continues to impress us (queue Deontay Wilder) to this day.

We talked about a lot of things over the phone. We basically talked until his phone died. With a voice like that, I debated making up random questions just so I could hear him talk some more. We dabbled with his past, talked about the current generation’s use of drugs versus his generation, and details behind his upcoming project with DJ Krafty Kuts called Adventures of a Reluctant Superhero dropping in three days (August 9th).

This is the part where I introduce the interview. BUT first, we must give credit where credit is due. Let me show some manners by plugging the guest first: Chali 2na (Spotify | Soundcloud). And then ya boy: ExhibitCreative (Twitter | Instagram | Facebook).

Alright, now let’s get to the phone interview with Chali 2na:
