News: Aesop Rock 6th Studio Album Skelethon

One of the most lyrically complex and sonically unique emcees in hip hop will finally release his 6th studio album Skelethon on July 10th through Rhymesayers. His last solo effort was 5 years ago with None Shall Pass, so it’s about time we got another album from Mr. Aesop Rock.

For many people, Aesop Rock’s music functions as a gateway to the world of “underground” hip hop, displaying the versatility and depth often found with rap that shirks the constraints of modern mainstream style. So mark your calendars and study up on Aesop’s grimey bars to prepare for another long overdue onslaught of dense imagery and complex metaphors. This dude is probably one of my favourite rappers, he has an insane amount of quotable lines. Let me just give you a quick example of why with one of my favourite rhymes of his.

“I used to have a rope ladder but tattered were the rungs
I strung it from the highest willow, trying to hug the sun
The seventh level buckled and I tumbled from the summit
Now I’m back to re-climb and this time light my cigarette from it”

– from “How to be a Carpenter”
