News: Record Store Day 2012

April 21st, 2012 is Record Store Day! A chance to head to your local record store and grab some exclusive goodies! But which stores are taking part? Which bands and emcees are putting out exclusives? What is it for? Well hold on there fella, let The Find walk you through it.

Record Store Day falls every year on the third Saturday of April, and has grown every year since 2007 where thousands of stores are now taking part internationally. Its goal is to encourage people away from the online shopping and lure them back into the loving arms of their local record store by offering wicked limited exclusives, live band performances and art exhibitions.

Among the cool exclusives available this year are releases featuring Aesop Rock, Afrika Bambaataa, Animal Collective, Atmosphere, Bill Evans, Captain Beefheart, Common, David Bowie, Devo, DJ Food, Eric Lau & Oddisee, Gorillaz & Andre 3000, Grateful Dead, James Brown, Jamiroquai, Kimbra, King Crimson, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Lou Reed, M83, Miles Davis,  Otis Redding, The Pharcyde, School of Seven Bells, Sigur Ros, Stax Records, Thievery Corporation, Visioneers, and library music legend Alan Parker. That list barely scratches the surface, and the releases range from new recordings, never-released live performances, and fancy novelty vinyl in funky colours, all of which will ONLY be available on that day, in stores. Plenty of those are CD-exclusives too.

To give you an taste of some of the crazier vinyl releases, Third Man Records in Nashville Tennessee is putting out a special liquid filled White Stripes vinyl record which is all kinds of awesome, while the rest of us around the world will just have to make do with the other excellent exclusives, meet some cool people and enjoy a  great day for music, I guess. Now, check here to find out which stores are participating near you, shut down your computer, go out and get yourself some records!
