Dour Special #4: The Recommendations (Pt. 2) (+winners)

Dour Special #4: The Recommendations (Pt. 2) (+winners)

Congratulations to Thijs (Eindhoven, Netherlands) and Alexander (Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, Belgium)! They are the winners of our Dour contest and can enjoy the festival for free next week. Too bad we have to disappoint a lot of participants, but we’re gonna highlight the Dour festival before and afterwards. That way you can also enjoy it!

After recommendations for day 1 and 2, here’s the second part with our personal recommendations for the other two days.

Saturday July 17th

Recommendations: De La Soul (& Rhythm Roots All Stars), Inna de Yard All Stars, Little Dragon, Os Mutantes, Chinese Man, Benga, Starkey, Skream, Emalkay, Crown City Rockers, Breakestra & Chali 2na, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Exile & Fashawn (more)

Crown City Rockers. This day it’s my birthday and damn, when looking at the line up I think I cannot wish for a better birthday jam… Besides De La Soul, Inna de Yard All Stars and the whole Dubstep movement, Crown City Rockers is definitely a crew I don’t wanna miss! Been a long time fan of Raashan Ahmad, Headnodic and all other musicians in this group, so I can’t wait to finally see them live. You shouldn’t either!

Chinese Man. I played this song a lot the last couple of days, it’s too good. The hip hop collective from France performs early in the evening (23.30), so a good way to get the feet warmed up for the energetic dubstep later that night.

Breakestra. I already saw funk band Breakestra live once with Chali 2na (Jurassic5) and Boots Riley (The Coup): I definitely recommend you to see them live! Funky vibes, uptempo performances and sick improvisations. You can read an interview with Breakestra’s Miles Tackett here.

Sunday July 18th

Recommendations: Lee Perry & Congos, Brother Ali, Buraka Som Sistema, Foreign Beggars, DJ Kentaro, Satanic Samba (more)

DJ Kentaro. I always say Japanese people are crazy (mostly in a good way), and Kentaro is a prime example. What he does behind his decks, is in-cre-di-ble. Gotta love DJ’s who still perform with vinyl and are skilled at what they do. Can’t wait to hear what Kentaro got in store, hopefully he also spins some Drum ‘n Bass.

Satanic Samba. This dude has a passion for Brazilian music and collected music from deep within the Brazilian underground. Expect some funk, samba and steaming world beats to end the festival. We’re in touch with him, so after the festival you can expect some good music!! (edit) Thanks to Alex of On-Point I learned Satanic Samba is a news anchor on Belgian television as well. Didn’t know that, nice!

Foreign Beggars. This. And wait till after the 2.40 time mark and you’ll understand why I recommend this.

That’s it people! A selection of stuff you really need to see in our opinion. Did we miss anything? Do you have any recommendations or do you need more? Feel free to reach out on Twitter, Facebook, E-mail or leave a comment.

Just an ordinary guy always on the hunt for extraordinary music. Not just as the founder of The Find Magazine & Rucksack Records, but also as a freelance music journalist (bylines at Tracklib, Bandcamp, Wax Poetics, DIG Mag, among others) and—above all—out of love for all kinds of good music.
