After a successful first edition, we’re back with our Pick Of The Week! This time we decided to choose a jazzy/soulful remix for you. It’s a remix of Common’s The Light by a Japanese band called Indigo Jam Unit.
Acoustic bass, keys, drums, and added percussion are the instruments that make the jazzy groove of Indigo Jam Unit possible. After releases such as ‘2×2‘, ‘Demonstration Tracks‘ and the album together with Flexlife, called ‘Vintage Black‘, they are back this year with the EP called ‘Re:Common‘.
You can compare it with ‘Re:Generations‘, the album with artists as Cut Chemist, The Roots and Cee-Lo remixing Nat King Cole songs with their own twist.
With Indigo Jam Unit’s live jazzy touch, they remixed several tracks by Common (also known as Common Sense in the early stage of his career). The results are very fresh and completely different than Common’s original songs. Check out a snippet of their remix of ‘The Light’, in our opinion their best:
