Behind vinyl records, our second favourite medium of physical music is the cassette tape, and the first release on fledgling label Grand Garden is sounding like an excellent tape purchase.

The Brooklyn-based label linked with Virginia’s Tuamie for a limited edition cassette that even comes with a plantable download card. Apparently you can plant the card in some soil, water it, and it will grow into wild flowers.

Aside from the intriguing download card concept, the music is also in a unique style. Tuamie is all about obscure samples and genre morphing, which is exactly what he does on this tape. The preview snippet displays a wide variety of sonic influences loosely tied together through boom bap percussion. The tape drops on the 17th and you can expect a fresh new cassette from Grand Garden every season.
