Ma Dukes (Maureen Yancey), mother of the late producer, revealed the works of a posthumous album featuring production by Dilla, and collaborations with many of his close friends and frequent collaborators during his lifetime. The album ‘Rebirth Of Detroit’ brings attention to the endless talent of The Motor City, as well as establishing Dilla’s place in hip hop as one of the greatest producers the genre has ever given birth to.

Over the past ten years J Dilla (James Dewitt Yancey) has gone from “your favorite producer’s favorite producer” to nearly a household name. Anyone who spent their Friday nights with glazed eyes watching Aqua Teen has undoubtedly heard the delicious ‘Waves’ bump from ‘Donuts’ (the album he produced on his deathbed). His discography and production credits are a collection of gems most would consider unparalleled in the history of hip hop. His techniques are copied left and right, and studied by some like the blueprints to hip hop in its rawest form.

Artists involved in ‘Rebirth Of Detroit’ include Guilty Simpson, Amp Fiddler, Chuck Inglish, Monica Blair, Phat Kat, and many more. The release date was set for May 25th, 2012 with the first single to be released on the 5th anniversary of his passing within only a few weeks from now (February 10th, 2012).
