Back To The Lab: A New Followup to the Iconic ‘Behind the Beat’ Book

You might know the black & white photo of J Dilla sitting in a clean living room, just him with a sampler in a serene setting, working on The Shining. That image was shot by photographer Raph Rashid for Behind the Beat back in 2005capturing producers in their home studios. And now it’s time to go back to the lab.

Now, over a decade later, a new edition will be published: Back to the Lab, consisting of photos taken from 2005 to 2016. And prepare yourself for the insane lineup of producers…

Here we go: Flying Lotus, Just Blaze, El-P, Ant (of Atmosphere), DJ Babu, DJ Mitsu The Beats, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Lord Finesse, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Dabrye, Waajeed, Oddisee, The Alchemist, Sa Ra, Harry Love, Oh No, Diamond D, Khalil, DJ Vadim, Kenny Dope, Jake One, Rhettmatic, DJ Format, Young RJ (of Slum Village), and quite a few more – including a feature with Ma Dukes, looking back on the day photographing the biggest legend of them all…

Back to the Lab (with 214 pages thicker than the previous book) is set for a release on October 13th.
