Proefmonster is Dutch for ‘test sample.’ It’s a quite literal description for this new project by producer Thijsenterprise: 100% sample-based remixes, made to test and study the act of remixing.
Thijsenterprise: “The project originated in April 2019 as a study on making remixes and learning to work around vocal keys, different BPMs, crappy audio, and other obstacles to create renditions of classic hip-hop and r&b songs. [Proefmonster] should serve mainly as an introduction to his music and the work of the rappers and singers. See it as an open application for new collabs. It is an invitation to anyone out there to collaborate.”
Proefmonster includes a wide variety of remixes with a lot of soul samples. Some slow, some subtle, and others with Donuts-like looping frenzies. Featuring remixes of The Pharcyde, Marvin Gaye, Mos Def, Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, Childish Gambino, Anderson Paak (wait for that break!), Jay-Z, and many more. And incredible 3D artwork by Eric Smilde.
Test results: positive.
